As Twin Valley’s 8 Gig fiber internet project ramps up in Mulvane, we’re dedicating technical and customer service staff to support the area and will soon open an office in town. Twin Valley’s newest service technician, Alex Kemper has been with the company since the fall of 2023, and he and his family are now calling Mulvane their home.

About Alex

Originally from Arkansas and then living in Virginia, Kemper said he was regularly traveling for work, and therefore, spending time away from his wife and kids. Through his previous job, he ended up spending a lot of time in Mulvane. “My coworkers would all say, ‘Oh there’s nothing here.’ And actually, it had really grown on me. I realized that I really liked it here.”

“I never thought I would enjoy rural Kansas as much as I do,” he added.

Months later, he and his wife, Hannah, decided to move from the East Coast to the Mulvane area. Icing on the cake for her, it’s also home. They’re adjusting well to the move and are really enjoying the community. The pair have two kids: William, 5, and Hattie, 4.

“With the kids being part of the factor now, it was definitely hard to be that far away from family and it was hard to visit,” he said. “And I honestly felt like every time I got home off the road my kids had grown; I felt like I was missing out on a lot.”

How He’s Handling the Employment Transition

Now working as a service technician, Kemper said he brought many of his service skills to the table, including time management, technical skills, and more.  A typical day in the office, Kemper said, means coming into the office, going through his calendar to see what tickets came in, if there are any installs, then planning out his tasks. “Storms may roll in and you just have to adapt. You have to be ready to go out and just work those issues at any time.”

He’s also a self-proclaimed talker who enjoys interacting with customers.

What it’s Like Working for Twin Valley

Though it was the job and location that initially drew Kemper to apply for Twin Valley, it was the culture of the brand that made him want to sign on.

“Honestly, there is one of the things in my interview that stood out – humor and fun are a core value, and they’ve lived up to that for sure,” he said. “There’s been some good times in the short amount of time that I’ve been there, camaraderie among the technicians. It’s not a job where you just come to work and you leave it here, everyone develops together and is looking out for each other. That really stood out to me.”
