What to Expect During Your Internet Installation

You’re about to experience the fastest internet available, so what should you expect on installation day? Whether you’re in an older home that might need some tech updates or a new build requiring fresh wiring, every home has its own setup process when it comes to fiber. And, no matter your unique situation, it’s totally normal to wonder what to expect on installation day. That’s why we asked our Twin Valley technicians to break it all down. We’re giving you the inside scoop on what happens behind the scenes and how you can help make the process smooth and stress-free. Let’s dive in!

What to Expect

  • Staking

At Twin Valley, we work with top-tier contractors and hold ourselves to high standards to make sure your broadband network is built to last. Before anything happens on-site, we’ll finalize the design—this includes planning cable routes, noting any roadways and buildings, and figuring out where cabinets and fiber lines should go. When it’s time for installation, our crews do everything they can to minimize any disruption to your yard and will make landscaping repairs if needed. Our goal? A strong, reliable connection with as little mess as possible.

  • Mainline Construction & Splicing

Once construction kicks off, you’ll start seeing our crews in your neighborhood laying the groundwork—literally. They’ll be busy burying duct and mainline fiber-optic cable, along with installing remote serving cabinets, handholes, and pedestals. These components help bring service to homes and businesses and make future maintenance way easier for our technicians. Most of this work happens in approved public right-of-ways or utility easements, which sometimes means work may happen in your yard, even if you haven’t signed up for service just yet. You might also catch our team doing something called splicing—it’s the process of carefully connecting the tiny glass fibers inside the cables to ensure everything is ready to deliver fast, reliable internet to your neighborhood.

  • Drop Construction

A “drop” is the fiber line that runs from our main network to your specific home or business—and it’s only installed if you’ve signed up for service or given us the green light. Before we bury that line, you’ll probably notice a small box called an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) mounted on the side of your building. Don’t worry—if you have any questions or concerns about it, we’re just a phone call away. Seeing that box usually means your drop is scheduled to be installed soon.

Our team at Twin Valley will also give you a call before we come out to place the drop. During that call, we’ll ask about any private utilities (like sprinkler systems or custom drainage setups) that wouldn’t be flagged by the 811 locate service.

  • Drop Splicing & Testing

Once your drop is in place, one of our technicians will splice your fiber-optic line into the main network and run a few quick tests to make sure everything’s working perfectly before we wrap up.

  • Scheduling Installation!

Now it’s time for the best part! Our customer service team will reach out to schedule your installation appointment. When the technician arrives, they’ll get everything set up, help connect your devices, and make sure your WiFi signal is strong throughout your space. Once everything’s up and running, you’re good to go—and if you’ve still got another internet provider, that’s your cue to cancel.

How To Prepare

Before your technician even knocks on the door, there are a few easy things you can do to get ready. You might not know every step of the install, but a little prep goes a long way in making everything run smoother. Here’s what our team at Twin Valley recommends to keep the process hassle-free!

✓ Prep Your Space

Make sure your home is easy for the technician to navigate when they arrive. Clear any furniture that might block walkways, tidy up any toys (or, let’s be real, shoes) that could trip them up, and if you’ve got furry friends, put them in a separate room or a kennel so they’re out of the way during the installation process.

✓ Make a List of Questions

We get that sometimes it’s hard to remember every question you had once the technician is at your door. Our installers want to make sure you’re completely in the loop about your services, though! To make sure nothing slips through the cracks, we recommend jotting down all your questions ahead of time. That way, when they show up, you’re ready to get the answers you need.
